Moderating and Ethics for the Classroom Instructional Blog
Patricia Duebel, Ph.D.
I really enjoyed reading this article about blogs and blog ethics. I found the article to be easy to read and to the point. I hope to use this article for future references and for times of misunderstandings. The author of this article brought out many valid points about blogging and the rules of engagement. The use of blogs in the classroom is becoming a hot topic among many middle school teachers and high school teachers. This article can really answer some tough questions about blogging, and at the same time help teachers decide if they will use blogs in their classroom. Blogging seems like a great tool for teachers to utilize. It is up to them to make it work, and at the same time make it safe for their students to use.
What is the appropriate grade level to introduce blogging and blogging related topics?
I believe the right time to introduce blogging to students would be in the middle school level. In the elementary setting students and teacher should work on introducing and using computers. In the middle school setting students should begin to be introduced to the many applications of the Web 2.0. Using a blog at this stage will help students become more engage in their studies rather then their hormones.
Do blogs really help students’ performance or just mask it even more? This question is still young in its creation, but one that should be better explored. Creating a blog and monitoring it can be an exhausting task for teachers. Blogs can help students get their statement out and be heard; especially the ones that are to shy in the classroom to express it. These same students might also be to shy or intimidated to use a computer, so their performance becomes stagnant and under par. It is a tough job monitoring a class blog, but if done correctly it can be a great tool.

To Cool For School? No Way!
Mishra P., Koehler. M (2009)
The recent article I had to read for my Education 422 class was very interesting, but at the same time falling short of what a teacher really needs to be. The article did touch on some good points about technology and it’s repurposing. This article really talks about the pedagogy of teaching and all that it encompasses. A teacher must really know their stuff when it comes to technology in the classroom. I believe my Education 422 class will help me in my preparation for teaching with technology. It looks like technology is here to stay, so it is about time teachers’ start utilizing it.
Does technology help student learn easier in the classroom, or slow down the process?
Reading this article about teachers and technology made me think. I believe if there is a good knowledgeable teacher that has their handle on technology and all of the cool gadgets, then yes. If the students can learn about different technological early on then it will only benefit them in the long run. Their studies and research will become exciting and fun. Their learning inside and outside of the classroom will become synchronized.
Do teachers need to be educated more on technology and other technology based tools?
Teachers that are not computer savvy or technologically advanced need further training. The classrooms of today are moving forward and becoming technologically advanced. Today’s learning tools are computers, smart boards, and endless others. Teachers need to catch up with the digital age because the static age is long gone.

Social Networking for the K-12 Set.
Jim Klein
The Internet and Students
Reading the recent article about Social Networking in schools was very interesting. I believe the use of technology in schools across the nation is a wonderful idea. Technology in the classroom will open up tons of new ideas and doors for any student. Allowing teachers to integrate technology in the classroom will give them endless opportunities to teach and learn. Allowing students and teachers to Social Network will help expand their communications and knowledge. I believe technology is here to stay, but also here to help and guide both student and teacher.
Does Social Networking belong in schools and classrooms?
After reading this article and spending time in my 422 Technology class, I believe Social Networking is a great tool to be utilized. Schools and Districts that use Social Networking are taking advantage of a great way to communicate with other educators. Teachers are finding that Social Networking is helping their students and themselves. Social Networking is bridging the gap of long distant communication, and allowing for more discussion and a greater opportunity for discovery. Social Networking is the tool of the present for students and teachers.
Should teachers and educators in Elementary schools spend more time teaching students to use computers and other technology devises?
I believe the sooner schools and educators introduce and teach young students about technology, the better. Once a student learns to use a computer their lives and even their education is open up to endless possibilities. It is never too early to start a student on the path of technology. The sooner they learn it the faster they can utilize it in their classrooms. In the end, don’t be afraid of computers. The worst that could happen would be a total meltdown.

Your Google Guide
Johnson, D (2007)
Welcome back everyone to my wonderful blog. This week I would like to discuss an article I read on line. The article can be found on the web site www.iste.org. This article was filled with tons of useful information on Google skills and related applications. What I found really interesting in the article was all the cool applications Google has. I really feel like I have only scratched the surface of Google’s endless possibilities. I admit, I rarely use a question in my Google searches, and I always use just one or two words. I think from now on I will try and use Google’s advance search when doing research. This article is short, but filled with great tips on using Google. Any teacher would keep this in a file for a rainy day.
Is Google or any search engine a proper learning tool in the classroom?
The answer to this question can be debated for years to come. I believe computers and Google search engines are a valuable tool for young and old students. The first step would be to inform and educate any student in the use of a search engine like Google. The more they know the more powerful they can become. Giving students the proper instruction on any search engine will help them steer clear of bad or inappropriate content. Technology for students is a powerful tool that can be used for both good and bad. I believe it is up to the teacher and parents to help the youth of tomorrow become computer ready, but also computer safe.
Does a search engine like Google keep computer users connected to the world or just keep them at a safe distance?
I believe that Google is a wonderful tool that can benefit and enhance anyone’s lives. Google is a great tool that allows anyone to search a question they have trouble finding. Or it can help a lost traveler find his or hers destination. The search engine Google may keep some users at a safe distance, but where is the fun in that. Watching a live stream of a musical concert can be fun, but being there can be a life time experience when actually there. Sometimes going out in the real word can be much more exciting. Rather then being cooped up inside your home surfing the net for lost and forgotten worlds. The computer and Google are great things so don’t be afraid to use them.

Chip Fist blog
My experience with computers is very limited. I have worked with computers for a short period of time. I only use computers to complete school work and talk with friends and family. I have trouble with computers and find that they frustrate me very, very much. For passing the requirements for this course I still am in the dark. I hope to take the CCR over the summer, but so far I have not taken it. I have used computers for classes at San Macros State and have been able to get by just fine. I hope to take the CCR and pass with flying colors. The only worries I have is with the Excel program.
For my educational background, I have worked with San Diego school district. I have been a Teachers assistant and also worked with a program called Everyone a Reader. This program is awesome for students who wish to become teachers. I have done tons of observation hours with my ICP Program. I will be starting my first teaching practicum in the fall 2009. This will be a huge experience for me.
What i expect to get out of Tech 422 is tons of experience. I hope to bring my stress level down with computers. I hope to become more confident with my computer skills and be able to help other with theirs. I hope to work with computers and children at the same time. I need to be able to be calm and experienced. I hope to get the finest direction from my instructor and be able to work well with a computer. This class should make me feel a little more comfortable when working with computers.
